What I’m up to, as of 2024-10-24.
Work
I’m working independently as a solopreneur for the time being. I’ve built a couple apps in the past year and consulted for a handful of clients.
After prototyping and gauging demand for an AI-powered music/lyrics parental guide app (alas, its not worth it), I’m currently working on a daily reflection app to power some ideas behind continuous self-improvement. You can join the beta at https://iterum.app.
Also thinking hard about what I want my online presence to be these days after spending the last couple years largely offline.
Reading
Finished up Pattern Breakers. Recommended if you want tips on how to build a “breakout” company as successful as Uber, Twitch, etc. The author kept repeating examples from the same short list of five companies, but there were some decent nuggets in there.
Finished Creative Selection. It’s fantastic - interesting behind the scenes account from a former Apple developer. He went on to be the head of Product Engineering at Humane (ya know, the doomed “AI Pin” that was lombasted everywhere), so that kinda puts a damper on his perspective. But still.
Now I’m in an all-out Tolkien Binge after Rings of Power Season 2. I’ve read through…
- The Fall of Númenor
- Unfinished Tales
- History of Middle-earth (1-5) (ok, skimmed some of these - Christopher can get a bit long-winded)
- Several art books like “The Art of the Lord of the Rings” and “The Lord of the Rings Sketchbook” and “A Middle-earth Traveler”
…in the past few weeks 😅.
Planning on finishing History of Middle-earth and then embarking on a re-read of The Silmarillion and LOTR. Sorry, The Hobbit has just never been my jam.
Watching
Shrinking season 2 is out! So good. Still laughing our way through all 17 series of Taskmaster as well. Looking forward to Silo S2 & Severance S2.
Playing
Finished up Baldur’s Gate 3. What a masterpiece. Top 5 all-time game for me for sure. Now I’m playing AstroBot (I think it’s a game that I admire more than I really enjoy) and The Forgotten City (opinion tbd - its intriguing!)
Inspired by Derek Sivers’ Now Page concept.
